St. George

Hey all -

I am not all that familiar with the St. George market, apart from hearing that the area is really booming in population. Could someone give me your general impressions as to what the radio landscape is like there? Are there any obvious format holes? Who are the non-radio competitors? Any other insights?

Washington County is only about 200,000, and is an unrated market. There are 12 stations in the county, 4 AMs (including one 10 kw fulltimer on 890) and 8 FMs. 2 AMs are news/talk, one is sports and one is oldies. The 8 FMs include Soft AC, three country stations, one classic hits, one CHR, one classic ro9ck and one alternative rock.

Three owners: Canyon Media with five stations (two of the AMs), Redrock with four (All FM) and Townsquare with three (two are AM).

Eastlan last measured the market in Spring of 2021. It's ranked as US market #568.

There are also stations that such as KATD and KXLI that are aimed at Las Vegas, even though according to FCC-data they actually cover St. George better! Vegas is that much better a market and it's not even that great of one in and of itself.

Half-dozen rim-shot FMs also.
Permanent Snowbirds. Big retirement community. Medical centers are a big thing what with us older people plus the Colorado City population.
Haven't been down there in 18 years and it was bustling then.

On paper yes. In reality, not quite. Mountains pretty much block the signals from Nevada.
... buillt by people with more money than their ability to get a Langely-Rice map.
