SLC market

I never thought there was all THAT much rock here.

Many of the stations listed are "drop-in's" or "rim-shots", which are licensed to very small communities outside the actual market. These transmit from distant mountaintops, which are strategically selected to place a minimal signal somewhere within the SLC market. Then, they use translators and on-channel boosters to put a listenable signal in to the major cities.

I've even heard rumors that some "rim-shots" feed their main transmitters via a low-quality phone line, while using full-blown, stereo-capable STL's to feed the low-powered (big city) "boosters".

I'm not in SLC but I reallly like 103.5 The Arrow awsome Classic Hits station
