Roth to Replace Stern?

R&R is reporting David Lee Roth may replace Howard Stern at WXRK. (The report came from Steppin' Out, a source ?? Stern fans know well...) If this happens, will YSP pick up the show - is it a given that whatever show is on K-Rock will be here, too? After Dee Snyder, is Philadelphia ready for another rock star radio wannabe? The article also says this may happen in September, 3 months early. Howard is on his summer break which usually lasts 2 weeks, so I guess this will brew for another week.

Alright alright, We all heard Dee snyder's show outside of his House of Hair format. Ted Nugent has his own show up north, and Now David Lee Roth wants to be a Dj too, has there been any other rock star DJ's to take up the "hot-talk" format ?

I think there has been an assumption by a lot of Stern show guests over the years that radio was easy, and anyone could do it, hense shows by David Brenner, Joan Rivers, Dee Snyder, Flo & Eddie, etc. Anyone who thinks just being outrageous & provocative is the whole show doesn't get it. Howard's show has been a mix of celebrity and "hard" news topics, interesting and unusual guests and show regulars, compelling interviews, stunts and bits, and just enough controversy. Many others have tried it, but few have been successful this long (20 + years). Roth would be flashy and loud, but I'd be suprised to find any depth or longevity.

Me Snider, The Nuge, Alice Cooper, Flo & Eddie, etc etc. All celebrities who traded on their marquis value to attract an audience in radio. All of them suck. DLR may turn out to be the worst, though beating Dee will take some doing. Roth is, at best, a good 3 minute interview. He spews out a stream of cryptic rhetoric that sounds kind of cool, briefly, but really means nothing. He's been laying out the same stuff for 20 years and it's really tired. He's completely phoney and I doubt he has a real personality under all that blather. Part of Stern's genius is coming off like he's being totally honest and real. Dave doesn't have a sincere bone in his body and couldn't even fake it if his life depended on it. I predict that the villagers will storm the stations with torches and pitch forks before his first show finishes.
