Portland OR Gets A Fourth Russian-Language Station

1040 KXPD Tigard-Portland (2,200 watts days/200 watts nights) is being sold for $200,000. It will become a Russian-language station. It had been the one radio station in Portland aimed at the Chinese community.

KXPD joins 1010 KOOR Milwaukie-Portland (4,500 watts - days only), 1130 KXET Mount Angel-Portland (25,000 watts days/450 watts nights) and KQRR Oregon City-Portland (50,000 watts days/15,000 watts nights) as the fourth Russian station in the market. KXET and KQRR air Russian Christian programming.

In NYC, there's one Russian station, 620 WSNR Jersey City, playing pop music and talk shows. I don't think LA has a Russian station. Chicago area has three Polish stations but none in Russian.

Who knew Portland had that large a Russian population?

According to statisticalatlas.com the Russian ancestry in Portland is 2% of the total population or about 12,500 people.

The largest ethnic population was "other" or 31% or just under 200,000 people. This might mean a large number of people did not want to report their ethnicity.
