Now what?

I have worked at several stations where a popular announcer was fired or left but never where they passed away. Was wondering whats the "Normal" thing to do? How soon will they announce a replacement? How hard will it be for the next person? I was only in talk radio for a little over two years but I know that those listeners are more passionate about the station and the announcers than music radio.
