Mike Kavanagh WSB - alive and well!

I just got back from two weeks vacation to a mountain of e-mails wishing me well on my "retirement" from WSB. Just to set the record straight, I have "retired" from WSB Radio's news department, but I shifted over to be an employee of WSB's Programming Department on a part-time basis so I can devote full time to my financial planning practice in Sandy Springs. I remain working for WSB in several capacities.
I host the talk show “Money Matters” from 9AM to 11AM every Sunday morning. You will hear me Monday through Friday morning with the Money Matters market preview at 5:45 AM and 8:15 AM.
You will hear me on Atlanta’s morning news with occasional special economic/financial reports, such as the report I have done for Monday, Feb. 13th on the economic impact of traffic delays.
For the rest of this year anyway, I will host Atlanta’s Morning News from 5AM to 8:30AM when Scott Slade takes an extended vacation.
I will also help out WSB in times of emergencies on major breaking stories as a host/anchor for long form news broadcasts.

I remain as webmaster for the radio history web site that I own which spotlights WSB Radio at www.wsbhistory.com. My goal in 2006 is to add more information on the individuals who worked at WSB and also to begin adding pieces of historic audio to the site – including a D-Day report from WSB’s reporter stationed in Europe during the war.

My replacement in the afternoon drive newscasts is Ashley Martella, who I knew 30 years ago when we both worked in the Richmond, VA market - he was at WRVA and I was at WLEE. In recent years, Ashley was one of the news anchors at all-news WINS in New York before moving to a station in Florida headed by an old CNN Radio Network friend of mine - Ken Pauli. When I announced my decision to leave my news position at WSB, the station considered hundreds of possible replacements and hired Ashley. I am told he will begin on the air Monday February 13th.
Thanks for all your e-mails and I hope this note clarifies my "career shift". <P ID="signature">______________

I remember Ashley Martella well from WINS. He'll be an excellent fit for the WSB shift.

When I saw the title to this thread, at first, I thought there might've been a rumor that you had died. I've listened to you on the air many times when I used to live in the ATL and you did a good job. God bless you on your financial practice and hopes it brings your more happiness and prosperity. It's also great, too, that you'll still be a part of WSB for the time being.

Mike, I do not mean to sound like a kiss-up, but it has long been my opinion that you have absolutely the best voice and delivery in radio news...hands down. I still enjoy Money Matters...and lord knows I should eventually learn to follow your advice.

Best of luck with your financial business. Hope we'll hear you fill in from time to time on news.
