Mets have signed tim tebow

I keep hearing that he looks like a decent hitter but isn't smooth in the field at any position. Kind of surprised he signed with a National League team, and VERY surprised it was the Mets, who share a lot of their fan base with the Jets, where Tebow flopped. The early rumors of Colorado and Tampa Bay made much more sense -- he had his only success as a pro in Denver and of course we all know about his college career.

The Mets will generate a lot of publicity for a very small amount and Tebow gets to find out if he really can cut it in pro baseball. While the odds are against it, he really isn't harming anyone in giving it a shot and he might well make it. He is a gifted athlete. I think he'd be on an NFL roster, at least as a backup, if any NFL team that hired him wouldn't have to deal with the echo chamber of controversy that signing him would generate.

The odds of him making it to the major leagues are very remote.

It is incredibly hard to climb your way up through that hierarchy of minor leagues.
A lot of very, very good ballplayers have failed to do so over the past 130 years.
Running that gauntlet might possibly be the most difficult thing to do in all of pro sports.
