My first reaction is admittedly tempered by Lonsberry's bizarre bleatings on society and politics, which leave him with zero credibility on most of the subjects he touches...this column reminds me that even a busted clock will be right twice a day.

But then I have to concede that the boy DOES have a good understanding of what the media, and successful programming in any broadcast medium, are all about--building bonds with the audience, preferably enduring ones. He's nailed that crucial fact in a way few of the people within the business seem to grasp.

Now if only he'd apply that same insight to the problems of society on which he pontificates---the way he used to back in the days he wrote for the D&C before he began chasing broadcast stardom---he ironically might find the kind of success for which he hungers.
