KONN-LP Kansas City now in stereo

It's now in stereo, not mono, and has very nice and clean audio. You can listen online, which sounds like the FM.

Other signals should follow their example. They play a lot of top 40 and hip-hop, dance, and Spanish music. Even heard some country a minute ago. During the day they have different community talk shows sometimes.

They've since added a lot of gain/compression... Doesn't sound as good but at least it's not distorted. I've heard the audio change before now though so maybe it's temporary.

That approach doesn’t work for a mass appeal station in a major market. An LPFM targeting a specific area? Yes. A 100,000 FM flamethrower? No.

Maybe the format doesn't. But the audio should. It sounded as good as streaming services such as Spotify, perhaps better as there was noise removal and volume equalization, but it wasn't clipped or overdone.
