KISR celebrates 50 years on the air

KISR celebrates 50 years of Top 40 CHR on the air. Their heritage ranks with stations such as KDWB/Minneapolis and KRBE/Houston.
In the early '80s, the state of the music was such that Top 40 evolved to nearly AC. About the only band that wasn't AC, was "Foreigner"! As a result, many Top 40 stations stayed at that level and a new generation of Top 40s(renamed CHR)sprang up to take their place, starting around 1982-83. I'm surprised that any of the older Top 40s survived the transition.

Remember, "CHR" is Top 40. It's just that the relatively new magazine, R&R, wanted to give its own names to a number of formats and decided that "Contemporary Hit Radio" separated their list from Billboard, Cash Box and Record World's lists that were based on sales, not radio.
