KCAL Adds Morning Block as KCBS Double Pumps ‘CBS Mornings’

KCAL is revamping their news on January 5th. They will have KCAL Mornings from 4-11am.
That was the whole point of this thread. The only question was when it was going to take effect.

Why does L.A. have a duopoly with the same network? Our local duopoly has one station ABC and one MY Tv and another one is FOX and the CW, why does the same city need 2 CBS stations?

This is a common tactic in the Orlando Florida market. Channel 9 is an ABC affiliate owned by Cox Media Group. They also own independent channel 27 and run channel 9's local news programming from 4am to 10am, while channel 9 cuts away for the ABC GOOD MORNING AMERICA.

The same thing goes on with Hearst's WESH 2 NBC. While they carry TODAY from 7-9. their co-owned WKCF 18 will run the local WESH news program.

Both stations do a 10PM newscast to supplement the normal 11PM news on the main station.

Meanwhile in Tampa, Nextar's channel 8 and 38 do pretty much the same thing with NBC and TODAY on the main channel 8 and the local news on channel 38.

4:30-9am on WRDQ, not 4-10am. WOFL does that.

Also, 4:30-10am on WKCF.

Its like San Francisco and Sacramento's Paramount Owned stations.

KPIX and Bay Area CW affiliate KBCW they all have their news operations use CBS News Bay Area name. KOVR and Sacramento CW KMAX do the same too under the CBS News Sacramento name.

Likewise Fox O&O's KTVU Fox2 and KTVU Plus both use the Fox 2 News name for their news operations.
