Jay Severin going on television, what does Howie think?

Though Howie Carr has made the attempt to "go national", Severin is going on TV with Tucker Carlson. I'm wondering what this will mean for Severin's radio ratings - and if it will give him a leg up on Carr in the Arbitrons.

A list of Severin's "controversial" statements can be found here.

Tucker Carlson is just plain annoying. Adding Severin is not going to get me to tune in outside of curiosity.

Moderator, please note: This post is asking about the effect Severin going to TV will have on the radio ratings - it is not a TV post per se. Thank you.

It's a minor league show. Severin will join other huge stars like Rachel Maddow as guests.

Howie's star is fading. Soon he will be without a newspaper to ply his screeds as the Boston Herald goes under in the next year and that will further marginalize Carr as a local footnote in broadcasting and print.

Severin has made better national connections for years. So, it is no surprise that he would be going on television. ( Is this a one time appearance or will a regular program follow?)

Not sure that the part Severin plays on TKK will sell long term on cable. Even though "cable means controversy", as some say, you can only call Hillary a "fat cow and a socialist" so many times without coming up with a second act.

Jay can play off his callers but unless he has callers on cable he will be just another failed windbag in the end.

Could Carr have done any better? I think so. But he too has painted himself in the corner as an anti-intellectual Phi Beta Kappa grad and the hypocrisy of that act can only last so long as well.

Jay used to be a regular commentator on MSNBC. I remember when he left
his old 'RKO gig (10-midnight) one reason he gave was he's busy with other
things like cable TV appearances. Oh, and early morning walks with his dogs.

What does Howie think? he thinks he will continue to do his show from the 617 area code while his competition will continue to do his show from the 631 area code

TV is one place Severin does not belong. The 96.9 TV spot is more than enough, put a cape on him and he IS the count from Sesame Street, or a thin version of a well known radio-info board antagonist!>

LOL

That's protagonist, Mr. N, and this writer was the first to pounce on
Mr. Severin's horrifying failure to portray Bela Lugosi correctly in that dreadful 96.9 commercial.

Sidenote: Lugosi (from Public Domain footage), I hear is in a new video from
your favorite Boston artist. A song that was #1 on the Boston Phoenix MP3 thing earlier this year.

LOL indeed! :)

NOTES:

Protagonist:
The main character in a drama or other literary work.
In ancient Greek drama, the first actor to engage in dialogue with the chorus, in later dramas playing the main character and some minor characters as well.

A leading or principal figure.
The leader of a cause; a champion.

Carlson will be put in the background by Severin, who is enamored with his own voice....but he is knowlegable and good at distorting the facts as he does daily to his "non best and non brightest". I think Carlson will be threatened by Severin's energy and although Maddow is very informed and knowlegable..she is not experienced on the TV process...and will probably have to "get it" quick or struggle to hold the mike against mealy mouth Carlson and Severin.

The above was my opinion....but before anyone poo-poos Maddow....listen to her commentary on her show at 5 or her many podcasts.....she's no 90 lb weakling...just hope she learns tv very well.

Yea, Howie is really worried about Severino being a panelist on a
cable news network without an auidence and maximizing his Boston
radio ratings from an obscure TV gig. Just liike with
every other MSNBC talk show, this one will fade to black in six months.
Maybe if they bring Morton Downey Jr back from the dead, hopefully
The Situation will get a half share and make it a year.<P ID="signature">______________
"I am walkin' here!!!"

Yes, I am a radio sales weasel but there would
be no programming if it wasn't for loooong commercial breaks. Remmeber that!</P>

Hey, he's got some issues. He's helping to popularize the flattop haircut again.

What exactly is this in aid of? is there some reason why you assume that everything is about you? who is "Mr. N"?

Why am I talking to you?.

You can't be a protagonist if nobody likes you.
