Jane McGarry Gets Arrested For DWI

Ridiculous to lose your job for a single indiscretion such as this.

I tend to agree with you. In the Springfield, MO market, an anchor got a DUI about an hour after getting off the set for the 10 PM news, and I don't believe he was suspended even one day. He simply issued a written apology, and the issue has since gone away.

TV Nooze is a youth business. Ever notice all the hot blondes on Fox News Channel? Trouble is the so called youthful demos don't watch at 5, 6 and 10 and not so much in the morning either.

It may take 10 years or more to happen but eventually local TV stations will have to ask the question "is being a low rated news station in the market really worth it?"

Jane's dad used to own a kinda neat small town radio station in southern Illinois, WRAJ, Anna-Jonesboro. It was back when radio was still fun.

The big problem for local TV stations by then will be that most of their traditional programing besides the live local newscasts will be available on-demand. So if they don't have their newscasts - what else will they have to offer audiences that they cannot get more conveniently elsewhere? At that point, if a station's newscast doesn't get good ratings, the question might not be merely whether the newscast is worth it but whether it is worth keeping the station on the air at all.

I have a feeling that old fashioned terrestrial radio might just end up outlasting television - both terrestrial and cable.
