Let's deal with reality for a second not what you wish were real.
You believe this to be a great album. Fine. Good for you and your friends. .I don't and neither does my circle of influence. If people aren't at all interested in it, it doesn't sell. If people don't care, it doesn't sell. Sometimes great work goes unrewarded for a variety of reasons, for the Stones, this is not the case. It's just not a big deal. They never were a great set of musicians so let's not put medicoriy on a pedestal here.
From the mastering to the musicianship to the inability to hold or note, it's just not quality work. Listening to a person attempt to hold a note or sing when they're well past their prime (and it's not like the "singing" was much better in his prime) is just not pleasing unless you want to love them "no matter what".
The last time I checked an artist doesn't put out an album to NOT SELL, they put it out because they want people to hear them. If it's not done in a way to reach people it doesn't sell. Their problem is that they're really irrelevant, very few people care anymore about the Rolling Stones' new music, they're more a part of history. That's just the way it is. That's the reason why people go to see them, to see a part of history. They really should stop embarrasing themselves in the studio.
As for people like you who like the new work, that's fine but to crtique it properly means you have to CRITIQUE it, it's just bad work. Nothing personal.
People who don't relate to it aren't wrong and it doesn't mean only "the smart people" appreciate it, it just means a small amount of people aren't willing to not.
If you think it's so great, you and your friends chip in and buy a few hundred thousand copies of it so my friends can clear their warehouses of the crap.
As far a Mel getting to Sirius after Howard? You're kidding me right? You didn't figure out how this was orchestrated? My God, the naivitae!
I'm not bitter, I just don't jump for joy over mediocrity that's all. "Artists" put their "product" in the arena, they're there to be purchased and judged. The Stones' latest waste of shelving space is having problems being sold because it's irrelevant and when listened to... even moreso.
