Decent Christian radio in Atlanta?

Is it possible for Atlanta to have a good Christian radio station? It seems radio in Atlanta is similar to Congress-don't know how to make it work. Fish plays so-called Christian music (same as heard on Star) but that's as close as they get to Christian. In fact, they're the first to tell you they are not a Christian station.

What's your definition of Christian music? With the exception of a few songs, I've never heard The Fish play anything but Christian artists.

Hmmm.... Interesting. I had the absolute pleasure of working for the Fish for about a year or so recently and in no way do they say they're NOT a Christian station; but they don't flog you mercilessly over the head with it. About 95% of their music and artists are, in fact, mainstream Christian artists with the very occasional exception of perhaps a Clay Aikens song at Christmas or something like that. I will tell you this from having been there; you won't find a more dedicated and true-to-their hearts group of people. That may be why there has been almost NO turnover there in the 4 or so years they've been in Atlanta.

There's WMVV-90.7 out of Griffin, as well as WWEV-Victory 91.5 out of Cumming. Both stream online, and are not as commercialized as the Fish. But if you want the preachers, there are plenty of them on the AM dial, like WAEC, WNIV, WAFS, etc.

The on air personalities 5:30am-10pm weekdays have been at the station since the beginning. Kevin and Taylor have been the morning team since launch, Parks came over from 93.3 to handle middays since the launch, Dan Ratcliffe came from an assortment of top Christian stations before coming here to help launch, Mike Stoudt started off on weekends when they started. No fish station can make the claim that Fish Atlanta can by having the main on-air slots covered by original staff members after 4 years. The quality mass-appeal station Salem has built with 104.7 the Fish makes it one of the most listened to Christian music stations in America so they are doing things right. Salem has made a lot of changes with every other Fish station but have left ours alone because it works the best, only a non-Fish that Salem bought in Dallas has had more success for them. I can honestly say the Fish has a better overall on-air sound 24/7 than both chief competitors known as B 98.5 and 94.9 Lite FM.

Yeah, thought that was weird the OP said they claim to NOT be a Christian station. Not sure how anyone could listen to them and not figure it out right away. I'll agree with the OP. I know the Fish is doing well, but their music is awful compared to what is out there. I used to listen to plenty of Christian rock a few years ago and there actually is some incredible stuff available. I'm not talking about DC Talk or Petra. I once asked a Fish DJ at a promotion at a Thrashers game why the keep playing such weak music. She told me the station is geared towards women. Okay.

The main thing about the Fish is that they have LIVE DJ's 24/7. It DOES make a difference!!!

I think its very interesting (and telling) that no one has mentioned Praise 97.5, by far the highest rated "Christian" station in Atlanta (and on a not -so-good signal).

It depends on what your definition of 'good' is. If you like the harder stuff, then a Christian Hit/Christian Rock station is what you consider good. Hymns? Black Gospel? Southern Gospel? Christian AC?

I wish I could pick up Praise 97.5 better on the northside. Anyone know if they're going to increase power or get on a taller tower?

Also, the Fish. Who is the girl on weekend mornings. Man, talk about energy! She used to irritate me until I realized she has the stuff that would make real oldies work. Now, I listen quite a lot.

The weekend morning girl is Charmaine and she's genuine! Sometimes her almost unreal upbeat energy is too much for me, too, but she's the real deal. Insiders at the station feel blessed that they've been able to latch onto her and not lose her to a larger market/station.

Christian radio-Fish

and, oh BTW- they are ranked higher than most of the big-name-type Atlanta stations. SOMEBODY is listening.

I have questions about Christianity so I'll check out Praise when I'm back in town. I have called Fish and was told they are not a Christian station, which is very confusing since they play "Christian" music-although like I stated earlier, it's the same stuff I hear on Star so I guess I should not be surpised they can't offer guidance. I really started questioning the format when I heard Home Depot advertise, even though HD has a dictate to not advertise on or support religous media/organizations.

I have to question you in saying you called The Fish and were told that they're 'not a Christian station'. If that indeed happened, you probably talked to a part-timer who had no clue about what was going on. As for Home Depot advertising...I think they'd be stupid NOT to advertise on a station that gears moms & dads and pulls over 350,000 listeners (those #'s might be higher by now).

By the way, nice way to stir the pot.
