Yep. Kind of hard to do innovative things when nearly all of your revenue goes to debt service.

CC will restructure and sell a lot of properties at some point. It'll be a chance to remake the radio landscape when that happens.

That's funny...who's gonna BUY 'em? They'd be faced with the same problems CC has now.

The real story here is that this is not a Clear Channel problem, or a local Toledo problem. This is a problem with the entire AM news/talk format across the country. The audience is aging and dying off. Advertisers aren't interested anymore. Scan message boards in other markets, and you'll see the same thing happening at stations owned by Cumulus, Entercom, and more.

Then, why is WHIO AM/FM in Dayton #2 in the market with almost double-digit shares? And has decent 25-54 demos to boot...

It's not all aging and dying listeners. There's a lot more to it. But, many talkers have stuck with that aging audience, squeezing it for every last drop of ad revenue, instead of doing needed changes to go where that younger audience is. And it ain't AM.

Probably heritage. That's worth a lot these days. I'd love to see a break-out of AM vs FM. The FM has much more power.

They're dancin' with the one who brung 'em. Now that Boortz is retiring, Cox will replace him with "Nein, nein, nein." I don't think that's going to be an improvement. Political talk doesn't work with younger demos. But the only real choice is sports talk.

The FM is beating the AM now..and the demos on FM are younger. Heritage does matter, yes. But only to the oldsters. The younger ones have no base reference for the heritage...
