Recently we had KLBJ (590) applying to move to a new tower on the KVET (1300) site.
Now Audacy's "Talk Radio 1370 AM" KJCE has applied to move to the Relevant Radio's KIXL (970) site a little less than two miles away. Apparently the current site has development plans "which are incompatible with the continued operation of KJCE".
The application has KJCE going from 5kW Day/500 W Night to 6kW Day/700 W Night utilizing all four of KIXL's tower (no new towers will be added). The final power approved might be less than what was applied for. The new pattern appears to be more directional than the current, especially to the north.
One things is clear... with the incredible growth in the area, this will not be the last AM site to be redeveloped. 1560 is probably the next most likely.
I also would not be surprised if the KVET ultimately gets transformed. It's not owned by KVET's parent and is in a very dense and valuable area.
