Why so many country stations and pop stations but no alternative rock station in Central PA? Seems like some of these companies that overlap on the same genres are missing out. I hear Radio 104.5 does pretty well in Philly and I can hear it at the fringes of Central PA, Lancaster/Lebanon but not Harrisburg area. Any insight?

While there is a hole in the market for alternative rock, there is not enough advertising support for it. WQXA once embraced alternative as 105-7 The Edge, but later went to mainstream rock as 105-7 The X. The adult end of this format is covered on 88.7 WXPN out of the University of Pennsylvania in Philly. It would be interesting to try an alternative format on a class A stick, if it were part of a cluster with some other money makers....but again it would be a tough sell. It works better in larger markets.
