Because Christmas is over at 12:00AM, December 26th.

Same reason all the Retailers take down their decorations on December 26th.

According to that song I get tired of very quickly every year, it starts on December 25th and ends on January 5th:

At the moment I'm listening on the internet radio to Classic FM (UK) and they still are playing Christmas songs interspersed with their normal fare, and apparently they do so through the "twelfth day."

Sausages for everyone!

We keep our Christmas tree up and lit until about mid January, usually until the last chance day that Recology (garbage pick-up company with new Green name) will take it away for free and recycle it. But that's cause the tree is pretty, and doesn't mean I want to hear Christmas music after 12/25.

Even before Christmas - my preference is for stations that play Christmas songs about every 4 or 5 songs, within the regular play list. I just spent a week in LA, and that's how KRTH did it. Pleasant, but not too intrusive. Obviously, the 24/7 Christmas music on KOIT gets big ratings, or they wouldn't be doing it - but I personally don't care for it.

A little nostalgia: KRTH's intro to the Christmas songs is a jingle - "Merry Christmas from K-Earth 101" - an exact replica of "Merry Christmas from Boss Radio" (KHJ) 45 years ago.

KRTH is the only radio station I am aware of that still relies heavily on jingles. It must cost CBS a lot of $$$, but it's worth it - a very pleasant throwback in this era of cookie-cutter sweepers by voice-over guys on stations like Oldies..uh..I mean..the New 103.7.
