‘Empire’ Cast Member Alleges Homophobic Attack

After nearly starting a civil war jussie should get life in prison so it discourage future incidents using race as a reason.
The Jussie Smollett case went to trial in a court of law where his case was heard, he was given the chance to defend himself, the process of law played out and he was found guilty of 5 out of 6 counts and relatively soon, he'll be sentenced for those charges he was found guilty of. In most cases there are established sentencing guidelines for the judge to follow when determining the appropriate punishment.

Regarding your comments about "nearly starting a civil war", that's an overblown exaggeration. Further, if "nearly starting a civil war" was a crime, there are many current and former law enforcement officials, current and former politicians and people who've committed blatant crimes that were caught on camera and are now walking free, who'd be much more deserving of a punishment than Smollett if "nearly starting a civil war" were a true infraction.

Problem here is that what Jussie did is a crime on a smaller level but there are politicians who have done way worse and got away with it because of "Election Reasons" or "Hyping up a rally"

And the hatred goes on.... Although, I could be wrong, maybe you are discussing President Biden and Hunter. The fact CNN, MSNBC and (mostly the Democratic Party) downplayed the entire situation (Even President Biden on tape) might be considered "Election Tampering" 🔴🔵

One key difference here is that President Biden allowed this trial to fully play out without becoming personally involved in any manner, Smollett was found guilty and sentencing will occur, very likely without any interference from said President.

Conversely, when Trump had personal interest in a particular legal case, he'd personally get involved, try and sway the Attorney General, the FBI and law enforcement, and in the end, if his cronies were convicted or if the trial outcome didn't go his way, Trump would simply issue a pardon or commute the sentence. How do we know? Because that exact scenario played out numerous times throughout his administration. Remember the trial of Roger Stone as just one good example, when the attorney general at the time was getting so much heat from Trump that he was making public statements and telling reporters that Trump's actions were making it difficult for him to be independent and do his job properly? Once Stone was found guilty on all charges (a total of SEVEN felony charges), Trump simply commuted his sentence.

The case in question this week was a local Chicago case, not one involving federal courts.

In the strictest sense, this was no different than a case where someone fakes an accident or assault to collect insurance. In this instance, the objective was publicity to enhance a TV contract, and not money. But otherwise, it was just a case of fraud.

A lot of difference between a federal case of impeding a congressional inquiry and a local fake assault incident.

Points well taken, but all the same, had this been the last administration, none of that would likely have mattered. Somehow any business or event or activity or case the former president was interested in, somehow became his business regardless how "local". There are myriad examples.

Mikey,
President Trump (as well as other Presidents) have also intervened to help "private people" also. Wasn't President Trump involved with Kim Kardashian's justice group? President Obama gave his views at least a couple of times. First was the "Treyvon Martin case", and an other was "The Beer Summit" with Dr. Henry Gates from Harvard University. (This was a serious issue turned into a "spectacle", However, I must admit several people told me this was President Obama's way of deescalating the situation) 🍻

Wasn’t the orange ignoramus also prior to the presidency infamous for spouting off about the Central Park case?
Can someone else respond to this question? It is hard to have a mature conservation with someone who refers to a President as an "Orange Ignoramus" (Yes, I know Donald Trump says bad things and sends out mean tweets!)

Jussie Smollett sentenced to 150 days for the allegations.
The judge also had some choice words to describe Smollett and his actions during sentencing. As the judge perhaps correctly pointed out, Smollett had and was making plenty of money; the only explanation for his actions in this situation was that he craved attention and wanted publicity and notoriety. As was properly pointed out, what he did was a bit demeaning to actual victims of hate crimes and attacks that are driven by racists and anti-LGBT folk, especially when it's sometimes difficult for actual hate crime victims to be taken seriously or get action in those cases (as we saw in the recent case where 3 white men more or less hunted and murdered a black man for jogging, those killers walked free for several weeks until the public saw the video and raised hell until something was finally done and charges filed - and ultimately all 3 men were found guilty. Had the public not demanded justice, all 3 would probably still be free today with no real ramifications).

This guy, and his attorney team, must really be some pieces of work. The guy is found guilty of 5 out of 6 counts and sentenced, and just because a family member received a random "threatening call", they believe the guy should be sprung and set free just a few days after his sentencing. Sorry, nice try, but that's not how it works. It appears Smollett is an attention seeker and his family and attorney team are enablers:

Jussie Smollett’s legal team asks for emergency release from jail as family shares threatening call

Jussie Smollett’s legal counsel has asked for the actor’s immediate release from jail, claiming that every second he remains behind bars, he risks being harmed.

On Thursday (10 March), the former Empire star was handed a 150-day prison sentence for “selfishly, arrogantly and narcissistically” staging a hate crime hoax that the judge said had “destroyed his life” and was designed solely to satisfy his “craving” for attention.
According to Rolling Stone, Smollett’s lawyers claimed one of his siblings, also registered as his emergency jail contact, received a threatening call to hurt the actor.
Smollett’s legal team also argued that the actor has been receiving “vicious threats” on social media which “no doubt reflects the hatred and wish for physical harm toward Smollett which he may experience during incarceration.”

Earlier this week, Smollett’s family said he has been put in a psychiatric ward and considered a suicide risk, despite being mentally sound.

Here is more on the Smollett fallout.

CHICAGO (AP) — Jussie Smollett was released from jail following six nights behind bars after an appeals court agreed with his lawyers that he should be free pending the appeal of his conviction for lying to police about a racist and homophobic attack.

The former “Empire” actor walked out of the Cook County Jail on Wednesday surrounded by security. He did not comment as he got into an awaiting SUV, but his attorneys said Smollett, who is Black and gay, was the target of a racist justice system and people playing politics.

The appeals court ruling came after a Cook County judge sentenced Smollett last week to immediately begin serving 150 days in jail for his conviction on five felony counts of disorderly conduct for lying to police. In an outburst immediately after the sentence was handed down, Smollett proclaimed his innocence and said “I am not suicidal. And if anything happens to me when I go in there, I did not do it to myself. And you must all know that.”
