http://news.radio-online.com/cgi-bin/rol.exe/headline_id=n34472

kyview Networks is teaming with CBS News Radio for distribution, inventory management and sales effective, January 1, 2018 under a multi-year agreement. "CBS News Radio will continue to provide the best original news reporting while also delivering individual service directly to affiliates to assure that our partners succeed in today's changing marketplace," said CBS News President David Rhodes.

"We are proud to forge a new partnership with CBS News Radio," added Skyview Networks President Ken Thiele. "This agreement powers CBS News Radio on sales and broadcast distribution operations to provide the finest and most accessible experience for affiliates, listeners and advertisers."

"Our new agreement with Skyview Networks will strengthen our distribution and advertising sales efforts," said CBS News CFO Charles Pavlounis. "This collaboration will assure our 30 million weekly listeners that they will continue to get the highest level of quality journalism they are accustomed to, while also providing for new opportunities for growth."

The contract starts in 2018. It will be interesting to see if Entercom/CBS Radio for their all News stations like KCBS, WCBS, WBBM, KNX will sign a deal with Skyview to get access with CBS Radio News content though. Or will this be like the Cumulus O&O's of KABC, WABC, KGO and WLS ending the contracts with ABC Radio when ABC/Disney signed a deal with Skyview though.

Update CBS has confirmed the CBS News Radio Deal with Skyview Here is a Statement from the Network.

CBS News Radio will team with Skyview Networks for distribution, inventory management and sales effective Jan. 1, 2018, it was announced today by David Rhodes, President of CBS News.

The new exclusive multi-year agreement coincides with the expiration of the current distribution agreement with Westwood One and will enable CBS News Radio to further strengthen its direct relationship with its prominent family of affiliated stations and control its affiliate relations, marketing, sales, distribution and best-in-class technology in-house.

"CBS News Radio will continue to provide the best original news reporting while also delivering individual service directly to affiliates to assure that our partners succeed in today's changing marketplace," Rhodes said.

"We are proud to forge a new partnership with CBS News Radio," said Ken Thiele, President of Skyview Networks. "This agreement powers CBS News Radio on sales and broadcast distribution operations to provide the finest and most accessible experience for affiliates, listeners and advertisers."

"Our new agreement with Skyview Networks will strengthen our distribution and advertising sales efforts," said Charles Pavlounis, Chief Financial Officer for CBS News. "Westwood One has been a fantastic partner for many years, and we thank everyone there for their dedication to CBS News Radio. These changes will assure our 30 million weekly listeners that they will continue to get the highest level of quality journalism they are accustomed to, while also providing for new opportunities for growth."

"It has been an honor to work with the CBS News executive team on their plans for CBS News Radio," said Jeanne-Marie Condo, Executive Vice President, General Manger for Skyview Networks. "Skyview is experiencing healthy, dynamic growth, and CBS News Radio is designed to excel as an audio platform."

CBS News Radio was awarded three 2017 Edward R. Murrow awards by the Radio, Television & Digital News Association including the top award for Overall Excellence. It also received its fifth consecutive Best Newscast award for World News Roundup and the Breaking News award for its coverage of the Pulse Nightclub massacre. CBS News Radio has won more Murrow Awards in the 21st century than any other radio news network for Overall Excellence, Best Newscast and Best Continuing Coverage.

The reality is that this kind of top-of-the-hour national news is not a growing revenue model. The stations that run this kind of thing are mostly AM stations. The scary thing is how many of those CBS AM stations will continue to carry this kind of programming now that they're owned by Entercom? CBS News Radio will have to find new ways to package their content to get on the more popular stations in major markets. It's no longer a guaranteed clear.

More important than that, what's going to happen to the "CBS" brand on radio. Entercom will only have a certain number of years before they must change the name. That top of the hour newscast won't have the impact without that CBS branding. And stations like WCBS 880 and WCBS-FM will have to come up with a whole new identity when they are forced to change call letters. (Again, not right away, but at some point, they will be forced to.)

The new and exclusive additions to the CBS News Radio lineup will include:

ENTERTAINMENT TONIGHT, INSIDE EDITION, THE DOCTORS, DR. PHIL and RACHAEL RAY * CBS News Radio will deliver original, daily, one-minute, self-contained news, lifestyle & entertainment and information updates from the CBS Television Distribution family of programs. Specially designed versions of each will be produced for audiences across all formats, and provide a variety of opportunities for sponsors.

JILL ON MONEY – CBS News business analyst Jill Schlesinger brings her popular financial programming to CBS News Radio with smart and informative daily, one-minute updates on breaking financial news, money tips and more, along with a two-hour weekend program.

EYE ON VETERANS – Produced by veterans, for veterans and their families, this programming is brought to you in partnership with CBS RADIO’s ConnectingVets.com multi-platform initiative. In a daily one-minute feature and a two-hour weekend program, EYE ON VETERANS provides veterans and their families with information about finance, healthcare, transitioning into civilian life and other impactful issues.

DAVE ROSS – Dave Ross, the winner of five Edward R. Murrow awards for Best Writing, offers his wit and candor at a time when listeners are looking for some humor. Ross delivers his perspective on current events and digs into stories that matter in a 90-second commentary. This program will be available beginning Feb. 4, 2018.

“These new offerings join our robust lineup of award-winning newsgathering and programming such as the CBS TOP OF THE HOUR NEWSCAST, CBS WORLD NEWS ROUNDUP, the CBS EVENING NEWS, FACE THE NATION, 60 MINUTES and THE TAKEOUT,” said Pavlounis. “We’re looking forward to providing our affiliates with value-added, high-quality programming for their listeners.”

So just like ABC, who sold their stations and network ten years ago, CBS has sold its radio division, but is not leaving radio. In fact, they're keeping a big hand in it. The only negative I see is that all those features air squarely at AM news/talk stations, many of which are seeing aging and declining audiences.

Also, some of those features, including Entertainment Tonight, Rachel Ray, and Dave Ross, have been syndicated by Westwood One. So that will be another loss for them.

question regrading CBS News Radio for the Dallas/Fort Worth market, will it stay on 1080 AM KRLD which is now Entercom owned via CBS Radio buyout or does it move to Cumulus' 570 AM KLIF or it's sister station 820 AM WBAP (which has been the long time DFW radio home of ABC News Radio, dating back to the days where Disney owned it) or does it go to Salem Radio's 660 AM KSKY
