Until the license is turned in to the FCC, the station is still "alive" and needs protection.
There real point is that its unlikely that any operator in market 83 will spend the money needed for a directional system for a high-band AM at a time when AM is lifeless in most markets.
I didn't mean build anything out for night service. We have a station here on 1510 WPGR in early 2000 night service was added with 1 watt. It's not much but it covers a 10 mile radius. Just apply for a few watts non Directional night.
Looks like they made themselves a full time station. National radio club reports on October 4th at 19:00 they were received loud and clear in Cape Cod . And then on October 30th at 22:10 loud and clear in campton New Hampshire.
1510 WMEX is not off the air. Its new owner is diplexing it at the WBIX transmitter site, currently at 1 kW daytime-only, with an application to do 10 kW daytime, 2 kW critical hours, and 100 watts nighttime (all non-directional).
Bringing back this old thread... WWSM's webstream is down more than it is on these days. Trying to listen to good old Al Shade (I think he's 95 now or close) and you never know if it will be on or off, or sometimes it goes off in the middle of the show.
