Listener Texting

Promotions Department wants to alert listeners, via text, when their favorite song will air. Is there a company that specializes in doing that? Does it tie into the automation system? Supposedly they're hearing other stations do it. Any other info would be appreciated. Thanks.

There are several companies that send text messages. You have to be really careful legally, there are big fines for unsolicited text messages.

As Elmer Fudd might say, be very vewy careful. Under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, you cannot state when a certain song will be played (next one is OK, but no more than that and no advance playlists).

The last time I had anything to do with SMS messaging services to a particular mobile user, was an opt-in service provided by Sprint as part of an ad buy with Sprint. In my case, it was for sports scores after the subscriber opted-in on their Sprint phones.

For the reasons discussed here, the carriers pretty much control broadcast SMS messaging. A better option would be to have an existing app developer get you a custom app that your listener downloads and opts-in. There are a lot of them out there. That way you can send listeners the alerts without involving the carriers.
