Co-host Alex King and I were on the air for 24 continuous hours to raise much-needed monies for the Sistersville Ferry, the only remaining ferry connecting West Virginia and Ohio, and is in its 200th year of service. To help fire up the troops, we mooed like cows, grunted like pigs and did other animal impressions to raise the dollars. Even though we fell far short of our $10,000.00 goal, we will still try to raise monies to hit that goal by the 3rd annual Ferryboat Festival, created and directed by Alex. We had a gentleman sing a 'unique' version of SOFT CELL'S "Tainted Love" (luckily at 1:30 a.m.-no profanity was involved, but I'll never hear that song the same way as before the event-it was a favorite 'drinking song' for him and his New York State friends) and received a pledge from a friend in New York listening online. A local furniture store owner donated one recliner, won by a couple, which donated it to a local Senior Center. The owner was so touched that he donated a SECOND recliner for bid, which was also won and delivered well into Ohio. Our community did a great job pulling together for a very special cause, as we're the only WV county bordering the Ohio River that doesn't have at least one bridge, and the business community was very generous with donations of money and gift certificates. Again, some of these were not redeemed, so they will be used in the future to raise money.
