"PK" is Papa Keith, afternoon host on WMIB. The station originates on WMIB-HD3 and is heard via the Tamarac-based translator on 105.5 - W288DD,
which had its own thread started on 5/24/17, "Goodbye W288DD": http://www.radiodiscussions.com/showthread.php?702460-Goodbye-W288DD.
They'll be commercial-free for 105 days.

Oh my, you did your research!
You might a fan of the genre.
I guess WINZ is still on W233AP.

I don't understand it either. I need to get down to central Broward, because there have been times that I have easily picked up WOLL - on my car radio - into Dade County. Is anyone south of Fort Lauderdale today? Is there any interference on 105.5?

I have no idea how this translator got approved. check out the contours of the translator...
DD is nothing new, they have been around for a few years:
first as Reach-FM, then as WINZ, and only now in their third incarnation as a Throwback.
They only radiate fifteen watts toward WOLL and only eighty-five watts to the south.
They are choppy everywhere.

I'd like to know how much of the CoL a translator must cover because where I am near Tamarac Kool comes in loud and clear. I know translators must accept any interference caused by full power stations but not cause any of their own so perhaps the owners of W288DD are ok with it since they're targeting Ft. Lauderdale anyway.

Also, can anyone comment on the audio quality? I understand that the bandwidth on HD channels drops by half for each channel added. (i.e. 128k on channel 1, 64k on channel 2, 32k on 3, etc.)

Translators do not have to be fed by the HD2 (or HD3) directly. They can use other STL link methods. They just have to duplicate the programming 100% without originations (with small exceptions that mostly apply to very rural translators).

A licensee can divide the total HD bandwith pretty much at will. There is no formula. You could give 80% to the main HD (HD1 were it numbered) and 20% to HD-2. Or pretty much whatever allocation of bandwidth they want. Stations using an HD channel to broadcast traffic data might only give a very small percentage to that particular usage.
