Bay Area Radio Hall of Fame DJ and rock radio icon, Steven Seaweed, is retiring after 44 years on the air! That’s right, our beloved Weedman is finally hanging up his headphones after one of radio’s longest and most successful careers. His last day will be Friday, June 30th, and he says:

“Let’s get together between now and then! I’ll be popping up all around the Bay Area, including U2 @ Levi’s Stadium 5/17, Goodguys in Pleasanton 6/3, Roger Waters at SAP Center in San Jose 6/7 and the Lamont & Tonelli Ball at Concord Pavilion 6/23! The most important thing in my radio career has been YOU – the listeners – so come by the Bone booth at any of these events and say goodbye!”

Seaweed has been a staple of Bay Area Rock radio since his debut on KLRB-FM in Carmel, CA, on New Year’s Eve, 1972. After six years with the station, Seaweed joined KSAN-FM (then known as “The Jive 95”), where he did weekends on the free-form progressive rock station through its format change to Country in November 1980. He moved on to on-air positions at Bay Area stations including: KFAT-FM (“The Wide Spot On the Dial”), KWSS-FM, KRQR-FM (The Rocker”) and KLLC-FM (“[email protected]), before rejoining KSAN in 1997, his station home for the last 20 years.

Seaweed will be feted by his station colleagues, listeners, and Rock royalty, who will celebrate Seaweed’s significant contributions to the Bay Area’s rich Rock history with special on-air guests and farewell stops through June 30. 107.7 The Bone will send Seaweed off to his retirement in style; fittingly celebrating his brilliant career at sea, on a June “Bone Voyage Cruise” for winning listeners, guests and station staff. More details will be announced on 107.7 The Bone.

Seaweed is retiring from radio after 44 years according to Cumulus and what a storied career in the Bay Area.
