How Will Ryan Seacrest Do KIIS-FM and "Live with Kelly" at the Same Time?

If Ryan can either get back to New York on Sunday night or do his part of Monday's show live from L.A. (with the value added of having last night's "Idol" winner as a guest), how does that make Kelly dispensable?

It is not the schedule that makes Kelly dispensable, it is the personality and star power of her partner. No one cares what Kelly's schedule is.

For better or worse, Ryan's star power is very high right now and this show will only take it higher, combined with all of his other projects. Kelly's star is fading and by taking on Ryan, the bigger star, his personality is so much bigger than hers he essentially becomes the focus of the show.

It is the complete opposite of the situation with Michael Strahan. Although he was a star in the sports world, he was a novice in the entertainment world and he had to audition to get the part of being her sidekick. Her position on the show was never going to be threatened. Adding Ryan is the complete opposite situation, plus with all of her tantrums and drama scenes, I think the viewing public is starting to sour on her a little bit. She used to be the cute perky fun blonde, but now she is starting to take on a Norma Desmond quality and that is not a good thing. Ryan just accentuates that difference (between his rising star and her falling one) and is accelerating her demise from her own show.

Is there any actual evidence to that? The ratings don't show a problem of significance. "All" the supposed "tantrums?" Based on whose verified account?

The public is souring? Setting aside that there have been critics since the dawn of time, where is there evidence the viewing public is souring on her in meaningful numbers? Apart from some inside baseball types on boards like these, do we have a shred of evidence most viewers care where Seacrest will be doing those shows from, or if people know, much less care, what Kelly thinks of the plans?

Just a piece in the National Enquirer.

Actually they are well documented. I trust you guys know how to use Google.

And Kelly has a very low Q score. I don't know about specific show ratings (I am not that much inside) but the public at large has definitely soured on her.

Update Now Fox explains why they canceled American Idol

Beverly Hills, Calif. — Dana Walden, Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO, stood by the network’s decision to cancel American Idol, which is returning on ABC. She said ratings were down substantially, and the show had gotten “extremely expensive,” in large part because of big-name judges.

“It was a really tough decision to make,” she said, adding that “the economics were terrible for us at that moment.”

Walden said there were talks with producer Fremantle to cut costs and to shake up the format of the show. “They were very worried about doing anything that would disrupt the chemistry of the panel,” she said. “They did not want to experiment with the format.”

She mentioned a “dilemma” of moving forward with Idol at “that extraordinary loss,” or saying goodbye to Idol.

The last episode of Fox's American Idol aired in spring 2016.

Fox announced a new singing competition series, The Four, at its TCA session in Los Angeles.

Walden said Fox was keen to get American Idol back, but not so soon after it was cancelled. “We felt like that was very fraudulent to our viewers,” she said.

"Cecile Frot-Coutaz, American Idol’s producer of the revival, was interviewed in The Hollywood Reporter and was asked why the negotiations to bring back Ryan Seacrest lasted nearly two months. “It was always going to happen,” said Frot-Coutaz. “It’s hard for Ryan. He’s on the East Coast now and had to figure out how to make it work, but he’s the hardest-working man in show business, so there will be some flying back and forth. But, as I said, it was always going to happen. He’s the face of Idol."

Not mentioned: LIVE moving to L.A. Because, y'know...it's not.

Here is an update besides American Idol, KIIS-FM, Iheart promos and Live with Kelly. ABC/Disney has gotten Seacrest to do projects for Disney/ABC

ABC Studios has signed a multi-year overall deal with Ryan Seacrest Productions (RSP) that will have RSP’s scripted division develop projects exclusively for ABC Studios for broadcast, basic and premium cable and on-demand channels.

Nina Wass, president of scripted programming at RSP, extended her deal with RSP, as did executive VP Andrea Shay.

“Under Nina’s leadership, our scripted team has achieved great success. Her creativity, hard work and key talent relationships have helped us achieve an impressive slate, in a short period of time,” said Seacrest. “We’ve all worked with ABC Studios in the past, and we hope our partnership will serve to further our collective success. It’s an honor for us to now call ABC Studios home for our scripted division.”

Seacrest is again the host of American Idol, which reboots on ABC after a long run on Fox. In May, he joined Kelly Ripa as co-host and fellow executive producer on Disney|ABC show Live With Kelly & Ryan. He is also host and executive producer of Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve With Ryan Seacrest on ABC.

Wass spearheaded RSP’s foray into scripted programming in 2012. RSP produces Shades of Blue for NBC, and recently received a series order from Netflix for dark comedy Insatiable. Prior to joining RSP, Wass was senior VP of creative affairs at the Oprah Winfrey Network. Before that, Wass and partner Gene Stein had a deal with Touchstone Television/ABC Studios.

“I’ve worked with [ABC Studios President] Patrick Moran and his team on many shows over the years, and it’s wonderful to be returning to the studio,” said Wass. “I can’t wait to get started on creating new series together again."

Moran called Wass and RSP “tremendous assets” for the studio. “Her taste, contacts and abilities are the best in the industry, and we’re thrilled to be back in business with her and with Ryan Seacrest Productions,” he said.

I hadn't noticed that Seacrest produced Shades of Blue. It's a scripted drama in the current mode of gritty shows and anti-heroes usually found on cable networks. I watched the first season, and thought it was well written, and well acted by Jennifer Lopez and Ray Liotta, among others.
