KRLD Traffic?

Anybody have the scoop on the big overhaul of the KRLD traffic department? I noticed a week ago the main anchors (Julie DeHarty and Debbie Douglas) were missing. I understand folks go on vacation, but having the main two gone seemed odd.

Then I noticed the typical airborne reporters were not in helicopters all week, but we're reporting in-house, even on clear days. Their tag out after each report also seems slightly different.

I just checked the KRLD website, and sure enough, Julie and Debbie's bios are gone.

Anybody know what's going on??

Wouldn't surprise me what with all the traffic cameras out there now.

As stated by others, CBS traffic contract with Iheart's Total Traffic ran out
April 1st of this year.

So, all Iheart reporters on KRLD stopped doing traffic for them, with only
a couple exceptions.

Iheart employees Randy Fuller and Julian Rogers transitioned
to CBS and become employees of that company, while Julie
Deharty, Debbie Douglas, Michael Scott, and myself, Blaine
Brooks, stayed on with Iheart's Total Traffic.

All has not been lost. More of a re-shuffling of sorts.

Julie now does reporting for KTRH 740 in Houston,
morning drive, and I do overnights, as well as
continue my reporting for WOAI San Antonio.

Michael Scott handles various reporting for stations
now in Oklahoma and DFW.

Debbie Douglas does afternoon drive reporting for
KTSA San Antonio.

CBS and Cumulus both make their news anchors do
the traffic reports now outside of drive time hours,
which I think is a cheap cost cutting move, but
that's just my opinion. Personally, I have ALWAYS
believed traffic and news presentations need to
be SEPARATE.

As far as airborne elements, I had heard CBS was
going to pick up Iheart's tab on the airplane for
Randy and Julian, however, I (and you) have not
seen that come to fruition yet.

Boy, I sure miss the old days of traffic reporting.
At one point, we had three choppers and a plane
all buzzing around. It was craziness, but it was
the fun days of radio, and news. Now everything
is on a web page, monitor, smartphone, or social
media. While the info is instantaneous now, it's
also sad for us old schoolers that remember the
comraderie we had (and FUN!).

well, totally unrelated to the recent traffic changes at KRLD, the Entercom purge has just began at CBS Radio and KRLD was the first station where the purge started and sadly, no more Charley Jones doing Texas Overnights as he was let go by CBS Radio as part of the purge brought on by the impending takeover by Entercom.

also let go in the Entercom purge is former Russ Martin Show sidekick JD Ryan who did not joined the RMS gang at their move to 97.1 The Eagle after Russ and the gang were taken off the air when Live 105.3 became 105.3 The Fan in late 2008. he instead went to KRLD and was still with CBS Radio until the purge happened.

also let go was Roger Emrich, who worked at KRLD for 20 years.

it's sad to see these guys be let go, but we all knew the Entercom purge was coming the moment CBS sold the entire radio division to Entercom.

here's Robert Philpot's story about it from DFW.com (the Fort Worth Star Telegram's entertainment news site):

The fact is that even if CBS had simply spun off the radio division and not sold it to Entercom, there would have been cuts, because the radio division has been losing money.

Man I didn't even bother to pay attention to what TSN Sports host they are using now. I was so used to hearing Roger.

JD and Russ had a massive falling out, as well as Dan Lewis. None of them talk to each other anymore, Dan left radio late last year IIRC.
