Westwood One News Expands Reach, Coverage

Westwood One News is answering the call for locally branded, credible news and information by expanding its reach. The network announced Monday that it has grown its coverage and listener base with the renewal of CBS Radio outlets WINS/New York, KYW/Philadelphia, WBZ/Boston, and the addition of WWJ/Detroit. Westwood One News can now also be heard across Bloomberg major market stations WBBR-AM/New York, WDCH-FM, Washington DC, WXKS-AM/Boston, and KNEW-AM/San Francisco. After just two years on the air, Westwood One News is now on 700 affiliates.

"We are very pleased to extend our relationship with CBS RADIO and to welcome our new partners at Bloomberg and SiriusXM to Westwood One News," said Westwood One Executive VP/News & Talk Bart Tessler. "This is a significant expansion of the distribution of our news product and testament to the resources we have committed to our breaking news; special reports; custom Q/As; and particularly our newscasts, which are extremely important to our stations and carried throughout the country on our top market Cumulus and Bloomberg affiliates, among others, and nationwide on SiriusXM."

What? Why would WINS and WBBR use WestWood one news though when WABC-am is declared as the flagship for Cumulus and Westwood One Content. The appearance on growth?

There's a lot of content. More content than one station can air. Plus WINS and WBBR are adding Westwood One to their other national sources.

I was concerned when Cumulus acquired Westwood One that it would wither on the vine, which would've been tragic, but Cumulus, despite financial issues of its own, has managed to keep Westwood One relevant and useful.
