YouTube Live TV Service To Launch At $35 Per Month

YouTube’s much-rumored live TV bundle will launch “in the next few months” with more than 40 channels at $35 a month, the Google-owned video portal said today in unveiling the service dubbed YouTube TV. The Internet-based “skinny bundle” will compete with the likes of AT&T’s DirecTV Now, Sling TV and Sony’s PlayStation Vue.

The Big Four broadcast networks — ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox — will be available at launch, along with their associated cable channels such as ESPN, USA Network and FX. Showtime will be available for an additional fee. The package includes 10 sports networks, MSNBC, CBS News, Fox News, Disney Channel, Bravo and E! as well as local channel offerings and YouTube Red original TV and film content.

Users can add up to six accounts per subscription, YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki said today in unveiling the first concrete details of the service. Users will be able to record unlimited shows at once with its cloud-based DVR, with no storage limits. Each account will have its own tailored recommendations and its own personal DVR. Also, unlike the traditional On Demand function, you will be able to fast forward within the C3-C7 viewing window of broadcast channels. A voice command function also is in the works.

Don't think I might get it (yet). Still waiting for the Turner/TBS/TNT and Viacom networks to be in there.

yeah, better late then never, it's actually a smart move in what i'm calling "the golden age of streaming media".

Update for YoutubeTV

Google’s new live TV skinny bundle, YouTube TV, arrived Wednesday in five major U.S. markets: Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Philadelphia, and San Francisco, Google announced Wednesday.

The launch event last month was perhaps a little too late for Google to grab the NFL Thursday Night Football streaming rights for YouTube TV, but it will offer live sports streaming from the NBA, MLB, NFL and NCAA. For a no-contract $35 per month—free for the first month—a YouTube TV subscription includes more than 40 television networks, including ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, ESPN, USA, FX, Disney Channel, E! and Bravo. On par with cable subscriptions, subscribers of YouTube TV can pay an extra fee to watch Showtime.

Programming from Time Warner and Viacom are notably missing from Wednesday’s announcement—Viacom was also left out of Hulu’s linear TV service as of March. But YouTube TV will add AMC Networks in the near future, indicating that Google will likely add more programming over time, just as Sling TV did. Bob Broussard, president of distribution for AMC Networks, told Multichannel News that AMC’s content attracts a younger demographic—many of whom view video on mobile devices.
