W228AM On The Air

Manning's W228AM 93.5 Frederick is on the air relaying WWEG HD3 which is currently a simulcast of 106.9's analog/HD1.

I heard through the rumor mill, though unconfirmed, it will be paired with their 100.5 translator in Hagerstown with a country format. The areas need another country station like a hole in the head; but maybe for sales it pairs well with their existing formats (CHR, AC, Rock, News/Talk). Personally I was thinking sports talk would be a good fit for both markets since neither has their own on FM. But if they think another country station, on pip-squeak signals, will make more money have at it ....

Well the rumor isn't wrong, at noon today "Max Country 100.5 Hagerstown & 93.5 Frederick" launched.

Also an FCC app was submitted to boost Frederick's translator to 150 watts.

All that (purchase two translators, shut one down, move the other's transmitter, and now a STA to go with 30 watts non-directional until a new tower is constructed adjacent to the WAFY stick for the 150 watt directional operation) for watered-down country? They shoulda kept the bluegrass.



Hey, whatever sells I guess. They have a pretty good signal for 30 watts, except close to the stick itself (Braddock Heights). Maybe they'll grab a handful of WFRE listeners.

Max Country is carrying Keys baseball on weekends, Thurmont's WTHU continues to carry all the games.

I wonder if there's an audience in Hagerstown for Keys games? Max at least adds coverage for Western Frederick County listeners who don't have a prayer of picking up 1450, no pun intended.
