Hd sides on am

I may be out of the loop or just plain stupid but can AM HD have side channels as FM. I don't recall picking up side channels on AM like FM signals, just was curious, WPHT just has the main signal on 1210, thanks in advance.

AM HD does not have enough bandwidth to accommodate additional data streams besides the digital parallel to the analog signals.

So it's impossible to add side channels to AM HD? Some HD radios mostly Insignia do not carry the AM band at all in their units.

Within the current bandwidth of today's AM allocations, even the HD-1 channel is less than what would be an ideal bandwidth.

AM HD was not designed to have its bandwidth divided into multiple channels.

This is unlikely to change because there are so few remaining AM HD stations compared to the peak point and nobody is investing much in the declining AM band.
