Home to the New York Metro are these stations:

Also... the Nassau Suffolk market is "embedded" in the full New York City market, so all stations in those two counties are technically part of the NYC market.

"Home" is a Nielsen term meaning a station that is licensed within the borders of the metro area.

"Embedded" is another ratings terms that means a market has separate ratings, but the market is also part of a bigger market. San Jose is an embedded market in the San Francisco MSA, but it listening there is counted in the full San Francisco book, too.

@ David, re metro ratings :

Are the two books Hamptons-Riverhead and Westchester County NY (embedded markets both) still polled for their own intrinsic and nominal worth but not published publicly?

Or have they and other survey areas been disregarded as if they'd never existed?

Embedded markets are published. There are no hidden ones.

The Riverhead/Hamptons market report was issued as long as there were subscribing stations. Prior to the introduction of the much more expensive PPM, the local station base dwindled and Arbitron dropped the market.

However, for The Hamptons or for Westchester you can definitely create a geographically defined report in the Nielsen software and see the results just for the area you want. Since PPM samples are theoretically "perfectly" balanced geographically, you can look at breakouts for any of the significant counties and areas... even ZIP Code clusters.

Obviously, The Hamptons is a very small part of the NYC market and still, even, a small part of the Nassau/Suffolk market so the sample is small and the results will wobble. And it is likely that nobody really needs Hamptons specific numbers today...

Westchester was a separate, embedded market from Fall 2000 through Summer 2004.
Hamptons-Riverhead was rated as a separate, embedded market from Summer 2004 through Fall 2009.

Nielsen (nee Arbitron) frequently adds or deletes markets depending on level of subscriber support in the market, though it is usually the smallest of markets that see such moves (for example, the latest deletions as of this summer include Decatur, IL and Tupelo, MS.)
