Good question AM Rocks and good answer my Ham Radio friend. I have been spoiled by the new HD/XM radio in the car. To listen to an AM station with no on screen display just seems so out of date now. As for signal, if it's done right that 1KW non directional signal can cover quite well but I don't know how well it will get out on one of the short WEXY towers. Not an optimal set up. Out to Weston? Probably not!
Check out WECK on the web. It's a 1kw radio station on 1230 with an FM translator. The music is interesting, not too old, a bit like soft A/C with a 60's standard thrown in once an hour (Sinatra, Bennett). At times it's automated but live well known personalities plus local and CBS News. The owner believes he can make a go of it. It will be interesting to watch this experiment and see what happens. It seems like this would play well in Broward County with the retired base, maybe a little younger....
