Why are Urban/Hip Hop stations running Steve Harvey in the morning

Because regardless of what he's doing, he's #1. Nobody wants to let him go just because of the music. Unless he starts playing country music, they're going to keep him.

Yeah but maybe these stations could get someone more targeted toward their audience like the Breakfast Club or Big Boy

Then they're giving the #1 morning host to their competition. Not usually a good idea. If he weakens for some reason, then he'll be vulnerable. But he hasn't so far, even after last year's faux pas. People are amazingly loyal to talent. Contrary to general opinion.

Not sure if the Steve Harvey Show is one of them, but a lot of those shows can be customized for different formats. Whatever the case, he seems to work for most of those stations. As the Big A mentions, if that starts to change, they'll probably look at other options

The long defunct POWER 104.1 in Hartford had Steve Harvey in the Morning and Wendy Williams in the afternoon. Clear Channel did not know how to program this station. They launched in September 2003 and stayed with automated music in morning drive until early 2005 when they picked up the Star and Buc Wild Morning Show from sister station POWER 105.1 in NYC. After they were fired in May 2006 POWER 104.1 again went with automated music in the morning for several months before picking up Steve Harvey. Meanwhile CBS's HOT 93.7 was (and still is) live and local 6AM-2AM. (Other problems POWER had was that they failed to counter-program HOT 93.7)
