Bill Vitka Retired Last October

KMan

Star Participant
In October, Fox News Radio launched another new channel, an all news headline service on Sirius.

They picked up some talent to staff that service (Therese Crowley, from ABC for instance) and moved some other talent around (Jane Metzler and Lisa Lacerra, who were anchoring the M-F evening slot on the main newscast were replaced by Kathleen Maloney, presumably both are on Sirius... they make occasional appearances on the main newscast).

Amidst this turmoil, Bill Vitka slipped away from the overnight newscasts. I hadn't heard him in any shape or form since the talent shakeup occurred. A little late night googling tonight ... with little fanfare after a 35 year career doing network newscasts, first at NBC, then CBS, and finally settling in for the last 8 years on Fox, he retired at the end of last October.

Only figured out he stepped aside after running his name through Twitter:

A real pro, with a great voice and delivery. He was perfect for doing newscasts during the overnight hours and I know I will miss listening to him greatly.

To which turmoil do you refer?

Sounds to me like Fox News Radio has been growing. They've hired a lot more people (on-and-off the air) to get the new channel off the ground. That's more than other radio companies can say they've done; big group owners aren't beefing up newsroom staffs at local stations. ABC News Radio has been shrinking.

Maybe Bill just wanted to quietly retire?
