Jeff Dauler Speaks Out

Former AJC writer Rich Eldridge featured an interview with Jeff Dauler in his blog, in which Jeff tells his reason for making the jump from Q100's Bert Show to Star 94. After hearing it, I believe Jeff did exactly the right thing.

Jeff says he is taking a pay cut to move to Star. But YEA Networks, the company that syndicates The Bert Show, left Jeff hanging on the vine. He was working without a contract since last January 31. If YEA really wanted to keep him, which he began to question, they got what they deserved.

As I figured, this was a move orchestrated by Star 94 Market Manager Mike Fowler, for whom Jeff worked at Q100. Star 94 PD Tony Lorino's MO is playing the most music and owning that position in the market; that's what he did in Kansas City, and what he's doing here. The Jeff move is not really consistent with Lorino's programming style.

As I've said previously, I think the move's success will depend on Jeff's to-be-named partner. Just my personal opinion--and I recognize Jeff's contributions to The Bert Show--I don't see him as a compelling main host.
