Best ratings on earth and ever

DOB

Leading Participant
K-earth just had the best ratings in the history of that signal, a 5.7 overall and nice size lead over the #2 station kbig. They are doing better 18-34 than Amp radio is, 4th as amp is 7th. They were only bested by kbig 25-54 tying kiis, 3rd 18-49.

The tight playlist with the 80s emphasis is working well, and it also doesn't seem to be hurting jack, the 80s have a robust history in LA, allowing both stations to own a different set of hits, k earth the mainstream hits of the 80s, and jack being able to capitalize on the kroq 80s classics.

As for the rest of the market, real 923 has taken down power 106, and seems to have hurt amp radio a bit as well. 94-7 has done a good job of just doing enough tweaking to pick up those displaced hot listeners. The sound trounces the corporate rock sound of klos.

I'm not too keen on Spanish language programming but it would seem that maybe there is just too many signals doing regional mexican for any one of them to really break out of the pack. 96-3 is trying Spanish AC but doesn't seem to be really gaining any kind of traction on 107-5.

It really looks like k earth, kbig, and kiis own the top spots in all the key demos. You got real and alt doing well 18-34, with power and amp down in that demo.

IMO, cbs-fm is a much better listen that k-earth is, but the numbers don't lie, k-earth has the demos cbs-fm could only dream of having. People will tell you over and over again that the thing that turns them off the most is repetition, but what they say doesn't match up with what they do, they really do just want to hear the same songs over and over again. So they tell you they are going to take the off ramp, but they remain straight ahead on that dark desert highway, when they say they want more variety they really are just blowing that cool wind up your....

Its important to justify your blog.
Here are the overall ratings released on Nov 23RD for October 2015.
For Los Angeles.

Gary Bryan is going to have a tough time staying on board if CBS is looking to cut back on salaries. His contract is up years end .
The ratings help CBS justify cutting them.
It seems KRTH listeners like music
And Shotgun going weekends and Tuna leaving seems to have helped CBS.

I think a better way to put it would be to say that Shotgun going weekends and Tuna leaving haven't hurt KRTH. I doubt anyone thinks Shotz or Charlie were holding KRTH's ratings back...just their budget.

KBIG wins 25-54, although KRTH is just 0.1 behind.

The tight playlist with the 80s emphasis is working well

That's because the playlist is over 700 songs. Not exactly "tight" compared to the < 400 songs played 15 to 20 years agow.

As for the rest of the market, real 923 has taken down power 106, and seems to have hurt amp radio a bit as well.

In 18-34, Power and Real are only 0.7 apart, and Real has the burden of a near-$4 million paycheck to sign.

Amp has had two bouncy months out of the last 4, mostly caused by morning wobble. If you look at audience sharing, the Real core is not sharing with Amp and never did.

The sound trounces the corporate rock sound of klos.

The Sound in 25-54 has a 3.0 and KLOS has a 2.9. That is hardly a trouncing... it is more of a statistical tie.

96-3 is trying Spanish AC but doesn't seem to be really gaining any kind of traction on 107-5.

Mega 96.3 is a hard core rhythmic CHR. K-love is an AC station, something I think I am reasonably accurate in stating.

It really looks like k earth, kbig, and kiis own the top spots in all the key demos.

There is a very tight field in 25-54 of KBIG, KRTH, KIIS, KOST, KLVE and KCBS. Amp wobbled twice this year, and November is one of the occasions. They will likely snap back as they did the previous time.

People will tell you over and over again that the thing that turns them off the most is repetition, but what they say doesn't match up with what they do, they really do just want to hear the same songs over and over again.

That statement is based on a misunderstanding of what "repetition" really is. It's not playing songs listeners like very, very often. It is not playing the well-liked songs often enough and playing bad songs instead. It is very frequent for a station with a larger library to get the repetition image because the large library includes many stiffs.
