CUMULUS Adult Top 40 WRQX/WASHINGTON, D.C. is bringing back the MIX 107.3 brand and programming. The station, currently branded as “D.C.’s 107.3”, will re-launch as MIX 107.3 on FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 13th, by kicking off the holiday season with 100% CHRISTMAS music. Legendary morning radio personality JACK DIAMOND, returns to MIX 107.3’s new morning show, and former on-air partners JIMMY ALEXANDER and ERICA HILARY return. - See more at: http://www.allaccess.com/net-news#sthash.a5ezSaev.dpuf

Jack is back and sounds good. WRQX played Christmas music over the weekend and went back to their Mix 107.3 moniker at 6AM returning the Hot AC format. Cumulus missed the boat big time with this move. WRQX should have shifted to a Classic Hits format, similar to what CBS FM,WOGL and KRTH are doing. DC does not have a Classic Hits station. Nearest is an AM in Baltimore. A Scott Shannon scenario would have been ideal. Scott played CHR in the 80's on Z100 and Hot AC on WPLJ during the 90's through two years ago. He is now on CBS FM playing music his listeners grew up with listening to Z100 and PLJ. Jack Diamond who is probably around Shannon's age would have been perfect anchoring a well done 80's based Classic Hits format, ala CBS and KRTH. So now we have WRQX going up against the well established WIAD and to a lesser extent,WASH.

Well I remember the old MIX-107.3, and it was very successful back in the day. I guess they are hoping to return to better days from the past, and bringing back Jack Diamond. It was a good format back then. Although their strong signal is now weaker towards Fredericksburg because of another signal on 107.3 from Richmond causing interference. Used to be you could get WRQX in the fringes of Richmond.
