FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai visits WFQY?

Hey all -

Did anyone else see the news that FCC Commissioner Ajit Pai visited Jackson last week? One of the stations that he saw was WFQY 970 AM.... I wonder if they were on the air that day.

I doubt it. WFQY is still off-the-air. (However, you can hear it at its web site, BDay99-1.)

The AM tower on Marquette road in Brandon is still standing the last time I drove by. The FM translator in Jackson is still on the air the last time I checked but with bad audio (too much bass). The FM barely reaches into Brandon. The AM transmitter has been down nearly all year. Which is clearly illegal. They need to get it on the air or shut down the FM until it is fixed. The coverage on the AM station has better coverage and covers most of Rankin County and Jackson and the FM mostly covers central and north Jackson.

What really suprised me is that Gerold Smith is quoted in this and several other online articles as the owner of WFQY. Unless I'm mistaken, Jackson Radio, LLC (re: Ken Rainey) still owns the license for WFQY-AM and W256BL.
