Sangean should make an AM-FM-HD radio. I think they made one when HD first came out, but discontinued it.

Now that it looks like HD (at least FM HD) is here to stay, it could be sellable.

I know Sangean make FM-DAB radios for the European market. They look like PR-D5's. Probably a PR-D5 with an extra chip in it.

I just bought an Insignia NS-HDRAD a few weeks ago and noticed a DAB indicator on the display. Perhaps it's the same way with the Sangean?

It's sad that there is no artwork display on tabletop, but apparently the designers thought about the effect it has on power consumption using batteries.

That, and lack of demand. The vast majority of consumers don't care about what the display looks like on their radio, let alone whether they have a radio on their table. Manufacturers aren't going to spool up designing and off shore-ing production of a new radio when they will only sell a few dozen.

The new Sangean HD version of the PR-D5/PR-D15 series, a new model called the HDR-16, looks promising. AM, FM Stereo, and HD radio reception. In the same case as the PR-D5/PR-D15.

They'll probably sell a few -- there are still enough radio aficionados who buy the other Sangean offerings.

This radio will be released in September. The HD 15 is an excellent radio. With the addition of HD, this could be a winner. I hope the excellent reception on the AM and FM bands is not diminished. The PR D15 uses rechargeable batteries and you can charge them in the radio. I don't see that function on the 16.

Amazon is taking pre orders at the list price of $160. I won't buy it until I read positive reviews and comes down to under $100.

Sangean has always made high quality radios. I hope the HD 16 continues that tradition.

It probably has the same 200 mm loopstick the other two radios has -- after all, it's in the same case.

But I guess we won't know for sure until someone buys one and takes the back off.

The tone control is a plus.

The Sangean page says the HD-15 has PLL chip in it, but the other two radios with that case (the PR-D15 and PR-D5) have DSP chips now, so I wonder if that's a typo.

I already have the DSP chip version of the PR-D5 so I won't be buying a new Sangean for a while. I'm interested in hearing HD, but not that interested yet.
