Did Nielsen Kill the Radio Star: Questions about PPM

I don't think PPM is responsible for the death of smooth jazz. And the gap in this article is that Voltaire hasn't helped the few remaining smooth jazz stations.

This Smooth Jazz vs. PPM argument comes from Jerry del Colliano's piece today. I can’t believe Jerry picked Smooth Jazz as his example of the supposed deficiencies in the PPM. Smooth Jazz was dying before PPM, and all PPM did was show that the diary entries that showed 9 AM to 5 PM were really a bunch of short incidents that added up to perhaps 50% of the aggregate time.

The same thing happened to a lot of high TSL and low cume stations that served niches... the diary recorded exaggerated listening spans with no interruptions. THe PPM shows that people actually go to the bathroom, take breaks, eat lunch and other stuff that interrupts non-stop listening.
