50 Years Ago on WCFL

While WCFL did not top WLS under Draper, the station got ABC's attention due to declining ratings and sales. Corporate brought in John Rook from KQV and he got under GM Gene Taylor's skin by transforming the "Silver Dollar Survey" sound of WLS into The Big Eighty~Nine. Fortunately for Rook, he was backed by New York and WLS was headed in a new and more successful direction. WCFL's long jingles, mini-spins, excessive jock talk, and even Chickenman, became easy prey for Rook's streamlined sound.
