Filipino fast food chain Jollibee now in Canada; coming soon to UK, Australia

These articles are from 2015, but you get the picture.

Jollibee aims to expand in UK, Italy next year

JOLLIBEE Foods Corp. (JFC) sees no let up in its global expansion binge, as the homegrown fast-food giant aims to enter four new markets in the next two years.

JFC Group Vice-President Dennis M. Flores said in a forum last Thursday it is working to bring its flagship Jollibee brand in the United Kingdom and Italy next year as well as in Australia and Japan “soon.”

“We are present in two [continents]. In the next two years, you will see Jollibee in four continents,” Mr. Flores said. Jollibee is currently present in the Asia and the United States.

Fast food chain Jollibee plans to open stores in Australia by 2017 serving ‘Americanised Filipino food’

JOLLIBEE has been called Asia’s answer to McDonald’s and now the Filipino fast food giant is bringing its strange menu down under.

The menu has been described as Americanised Filipino food, offering such things as breakfast steaks and hotdogs, tuna pies and a burger called the Cheesy Bacon Mushroom Yum.

Jollibee bosses made the announcement at the 17th Asia Pacific Retailers Convention and Exhibition last week.

The first Australian store is expected to open in 2017.

I'm not sure what [Tim Hortons'] plans are for the States, but their most recent business decision, while continuing on business as usual in Canada, is to tackle the Philippines... https://www.thestar.com/business/20...m-hortons-plans-southeast-asia-expansion.html

Speaking of Timmy Ho's...

Tim Hortons is opening soon in Manila and we know where!

Since July of last year, word’s been going around that Canada’s world renowned coffee house is finally coming to the Philippines and since then we’ve been waiting for further news. All we got was the announcement that Restaurant Brands International (RBI) would be bringing their signature coffee brand to South East Asia with its pioneer store to be based in the Philippines – but now, there’s physical proof!

Located on the intersection of United Nations Avenue and San Marcelino St. in Ermita, Manila, we all know where we’re running to when it finally opens. Construction is set to finish by end of January so we can expect an opening by February.

UPDATE: We found a second Tim Horton’s location and it’s at Uptown Mall in BGC!

Jollibee will be Opening in Scarborough

Good news Filipino fast food lovers! Earlier this year, we announced that Jollibee would be opening their first Ontario location in Mississauga and it has since been discovered through job postings online that the popular eatery will be opening a second Ontario location in Scarborough.

The Mississauga location will open inside the soon-to-open Seafood City in Heartland Town Centre and the Scarborough location will open at 15 William Kitchen Road, in the former Mr. Greek location.

As of right now, there are no confirmed opening dates for either location, though Seafood City is expected to open shortly in spring 2017. Jollibee also has plans to open an Edmonton post.

Jollibee, Philippines’ Largest Fast-Food Chain, Just Opened Its First Toronto Restaurant

Torontonians were reported to have been lining up for 10 hours on Easter Sunday just to get a taste of the chicken from Jollibee, a fast-food chain that has long been touted as the ‘McDonald’s of the Philippines’.

On both sides of the Pacific, Jollibee has long been a staple of Filipinos living inside and outside of their home country, serving up traditional American dishes, such as burgers, fries, chicken and spaghetti, with a uniquely Asian spin.

The iconic Jollibee red and white mascot was first seen on the front step of the chain’s premiere restaurant in the Philippines in 1975. Since then, it has grown to become the small Southeast Asian country’s largest fast-food chain and this Scarborough location will become Canada’s third location, as there are already two operating in Winnipeg.

The chain is hoping to expand their Canadian fleet to include a location in downtown Edmonton and another two stores in Ontario, one in Mississauga and one in downtown Toronto.

If you do reside in the GTA, then you can make a trip to Scarborough Plaza to check out the Filipino fast-food offerings from Jollibee.

OMG! It is still a 5 hour wait to get into the place.
They have tents set up to keep the line in order.
The restaurant is located in the Scarborough part of Toronto. (east end Toronto)
While a second location is set to open in Mississauga in August, there is rumor already that there will soon be a Downtown Toronto location ready to open just in time for Christmas.
(Mississauga is NOT Toronto btw, it is it's own city just outside Toronto)
That would be nice, since Scarborough is far enough away from downtown Toronto.

I'm looking forward to giving this place a try soon, but I am not willing to wait 5 hours in line!
Too bad they can't get a second location up and running soon enough!

WOW! Still a 3 hour wait at the Scarborough (Toronto, Ontario) location.
A month goes by and people are still willing to wait an awful long time for food!
Not me. I'll wait a bit longer for the line to die down some more before I do any lining up.
Word floating around: The Jollibee chicken tastes like Popeye's and the burger tastes like Wendy's, except it's round instead of square.
I can't wait to learn how true or false this really is!

Filipino fast food chain Jollibee to open 100 Canadian stores in next five years

Filipino fast-food chain Jollibee Food Corporation plans to open 100 stores in Canada within the next five years.

The company says it is eyeing the wave of new locations because the country is a key growth market and a big part of its North American expansion plans.

Jollibee attracted long lines of customers when it entered the Canadian market in 2016, opening two Winnipeg locations and a store in Scarborough, Ont. over the last three years.

It hopes to expand further in Ontario, but is also exploring stores in Edmonton, Calgary and Vancouver.

Its aggressive expansion comes as international interest in Filipino food is rising and as Canada is attracting an increasing number of restaurants serving such food.

Jollibee's Filipino fare includes spaghetti in a sweet sauce, crispy chicken, burgers and peach mango pies.

Pinoys in U.K. flock to opening of first Jollibee branch in London

Ever since Jollibee announced that they would be opening their first London branch on October 20, expectations were high.

The appropriately British storefront helped in hyping it up, and the turnout was as crazy-intense as expected.

On Jollibee U.K.'s Facebook page, customers shared how they stayed in line for an average of five or six hours.

Luckily, there were no tensions at all, only smiles and tremendous excitement for London's first taste of Chicken Joy.

BBC's Rico Hizon reveals Jollibee Founder Tony Tan Caktiong's plans for Chicken Joy to challenge U.S. fried chicken chains

Jollibee’s Founder Tony Tan Caktiong revealed to British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) Filipino broadcast journalist Rico Hizon his plans to speed up the pace of expansion of its worldwide franchise.

BBC news anchor Rico Hizon, the Philippines’ Walk of Fame awardee who has showcased the Philippines’ Island Treasures in BBC reports, reported in a video feature how the most popular food chain in the Philippines is challenging U.S. fried chicken chains in its bid to make the Filipino restaurant a global household name. Chicken Joy, Jollibee’s fried chicken, has already been listed as the Top 3 fried chicken brand available in America.

In the BBC video Caktiong talked to Hizon about how Jollibee is looking at focusing on the United States and China markets in its business expansion efforts.

Jollibee Thornhill: Biggest Jollibee in Canada set to open before Christmas

Jollibee Edmonton just opened to massive crowds over the weekend, the fifth location for the Filipino fast-food giant. Now, construction for the sixth (and largest) location is well on its way: Jollibee Thornhill is set to open its doors to the public before Christmas.

Just a few minutes north of Downtown Toronto, the suburban community of Thornhill has a population of 56,361.

Because of its proximity to the City of Toronto, the population of Thornhill has grown dramatically. Thornhill is now home to a large number of Filipinos, many of whom came to Canada under the now-defunct Live In Caregiver Program.

Thornhill is home to Canadians from diverse backgrounds, including Jewish, Chinese, Korean, Persian and Italian.

To put things in perspective, there are 33,000 members of the Jewish community, while there are approximately 2,535 Filipinos living in the Thornhill area.

I spent some time in the Philippines back in the 60's but can't say I was attracted to their food (other than that wonderful San Miguel beer which is, I presume, food).

For those of you who have experienced Jollibee, is the food authentic Fillipino or is it "North Americanized"?

Recommendations?

We have a Jollibee in the JAX area and it is almost always crowded. That may be more because of the novelty of it being Jolibee as opposed to great Filipino cuisine and the clientele is almost 100% Filipino, except for some
spouses.

It is probably somewhere between Filipino and Americanized. I'd say the quality at the JAX location tends to vary and we've been there maybe three or four times.

I really prefer the locations in the Philippines, but that is a long way to go for a burger, Chicken Joy (chicken and spaghetti) or beefsteak on rice with gravy. The RP locations do have a tuna pie, essentially tuna pot pie in the singles apply or cherry pie crust.

So...hope JolliBee knows how to make good coffee! ;)
They bought The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in 2019.

On 24 July 2019, Jollibee Foods Corporation announced its acquisition of The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf for $550 million, alongside a $100 million investment within the company.

Back on topic, Jollibee now has stores in Alberta and Saskatchewan; it's opening soon in the capital city of Ottawa.
