Atlanta's USA Dance Mix celebrates 1st anniversary

Since our debut last March we now have loyal listeners around the globe. Who would have thought a NEW format covering all Dance and all decades would be so popular? Other Dance stations cover the 70’s, 80’s or 90’s, etc. But, WE COVER THEM ALL. 40 years of Dance-Disco-House music. Currently we have over 700 tracks with about 1/3 of them unique to USA Dance Mix!!! Disco began in 1974, so we have adjusted our 40 year format by dropping all songs from that year (we only had two). However, next year we will say goodbye to about 20 tracks from 1975.

In a typical 48 hour period we have close to 500 listening session from 55 countries, with the average listening length being 75 minutes (an almost unheard of statistic). Many loyal fans listen for hours at a time! With a lot of room for growth and limited promotion available other than word of mouth (not a lot out there for web stations) we do somehow continue to add new listeners. Our station sound varies by day of the week and generally covers a 24 hour period starting at midnight. I feel we are really breaking some ground with not only the format but the daily “format” also. (I invite all Radio Discussions Dance heads to check us out, as our sound has evolved and improved over the first year).

Lastly, I list our daily formats in order of popularity:
“Everybody Loves Friday” Show (midnight-noon) Retro and new Dance titles with Love in them.
“Worldwide Disco Trip” (noon Fri.-midnight Sun.) Blends the old with the new.
“Super Soulful” Tuesday & Thursday (all day) More Funk, R&B Crossover jams presented.
“Wonder Women Wednesday” (all day) Mostly female singers and artists (a few men thrown in)
“Absolutely Awesome Monday” (all day) More recurrent tracks from the past 5 or so years presented along with the new and less retro (gives the station a “newer” sound).

I hear you. I call it "heritage" product. Anyway, not to dwell on the subject but I can actually pull up the years........which I haven't done before, so this is for me as much you and everyone else (only took about 30 min).

P.S.
So 2010-2015 on USA Dance Mix has more titles than the 80's and 90's combined. We're not just old school, we're new school also!!!!

Slightly less than half of our song titles are from 2000+.

Got any Arabesque on there?

They're an all girl European group out of Germany. (They sing in English.) Kind of a cross between Bangles and Expose'.
Believe they've broken up now but they still play there music on shortwave.
