CBS Radio selling out to Cumulus?

Wouldn't be a big deal except for the fact that Cumulus only has room in the stable for one more station (including the Dickey Broadcasting stations), and CBS Radio Atlanta has three. Or would CBS Radio Atlanta go to Entercom? Would WQXI and WAOK make a good simulcast pair, being strong on the north side and south side respectively?

The problem with a merger is that it would put them over the limit in just about every market that the two coexist in.

Not to mention the fact that they simply don't have the money.

If you read the article, this is an idea that was recommended to CBS. It doesn't mean it's a done deal.

In New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Dallas, CBS alone is already at the limit. (That is also the case in Philadelphia, but Cumulus doesn't have a presence there.)

Someone needs to give the hedge fund managers a copy of the appropriate FCC rule sections.

If CBS radio were up for sale, they should check Hubbard. I wouldn't doubt they would be very interested in purchasing more large market stations.
I just don't see how *** U Less would have the money. Unless they can convince the backers 'This would increase our bottom line." for a short time until they get most of the talented people to leave.

It's easy to pick on Cumulus, but the fact is that whoever CBS sells to, people will go. CBS just traded a few markets with Beasley, and personnel & format changes followed. Same with when they sold to Wilks and Regent. In fact, the merger with Regent ultimately bankrupted the company, and now those stations are owned by Townsquare. So there really is no white knight.

Has the Star 94 by out by Entercom been completed yet? I know there were earlier discussions that perhaps CBS would turn around and buy Star from Entercom once they buy the station. Curious if that idea has been tossed considering the Cumulus & CBS talk.
