Vacation In Payson?

Nurse Jeff and I’ve heard the Charles Osgood commercial for Auto Owners Insurance on KFWhyEye for months now. Instead of it being tagged with Valley agents who sell Auto Owners, it’s tagged with one up in Payson. Why would Auto Owners buy Phoenix radio to reach Payson? Can’t be because it’s cheaper that way! Hmmmmm...maybe someone with Clear Channel...err, I ♥ Media, has a cabin on the Mogollon Rim? Any other guesses?

Because when you buy a franchise you pay into a marketing fund. For your payment, you get tags on the national spots. The buyer, probably on one of the coasts, doesn't know that Payson doesn't equal Phoenix - especially since the FMs licensed to Payson target the bigger city.

I can think of a Papa John's franchisee in Kentucky who is paying into the fund to buy radio spots in Louisville, even though all of those signals are shaded from his stores by terrain. Franchise marketing funds do everything for the franchisor and nothing for the franchisee.

He's getting his money's worth as that commercial has run for months on KFWhyEye with only his Payson agency on the tag. Makes as much sense as some of Los Buckeye Boyz posts - darned little!

While there was a time that 550 "Cover(ed) Arizona Like The Sun," with all the crap that consumer electronics and such throws out onto the Ancient Modulation band, dialing in 550 in Payson during the day might require some effort.

Who needs HD Radio to put hash on AM when everything in your house can do it for you?
