WQEW New York (1560 kHz) has been off-the-air for nearly all of today, Tuesday, February 17, 2015.

The FCC approved the AM broadcast voluntary license assignment from Radio Disney New York, LLC. to Family Stations, Inc., and the license was ultimately reassigned on February 10, 2015, effectively placing control of the station's assets solely with Family Stations, Inc. In conjunction with the assignment application, a companion application to convert the station license from "Commercial" to "Noncommercial Educational" was filed. That companion application, presumably, has likewise been approved.

Regarding Family Stations, Inc.'s other New York DMA facility at 106.3FM in Mount Kisco, New York, that station's call-sign was changed from WFME to WFME-FM on November 27, 2014.

The current product is now on-air. It sounds exactly like FME sounded of 30 year ago, probably 50 year ago as well. A real museum piece. Considering that it is proffering 2000 year old superstition, well....

If anyone needs more confirmation as to the terminal status of AM -here ya go!

It does have much better audio than Disney's hash fest.

I have several clips from a half-dozen stations that were heard in WQEW's absence, if anyone is into the DXing hobby. Here in NEPA WQEW was always a real moose anyway but its absence helped reception of the other stations.

The closer one gets to 1560's tower site in Queens, the less likely are the chances of hearing anything when they were off the air, because the other 1560 stations purposely steer away from that site. But some DXers in the Five Boroughs and elsewhere will have come up with a few unheards.

They probably came up with a few oddities on adjacents 1550 and 1570, too.

I heard a sign-off from Jesuscaster WSBV in Virginia the first week WQEW was silent . Supposed to be 250 during "critical hours" I guess the the good Lord forgot to power down . Stevie, are you still on the airy?
