The hip-hop blogosphere is jumping all over a report from MediaTakeout.com that Jay-Z is putting together a group to acquire “Hot 97” WQHT New York from Emmis.

According to a ROCK SOLID SOURCE – Shawn “Jay Z” Carter along with a group of investors that includes NY Knicks star Carmelo Anthony are currently NEGOTIATING TO BUY Hot 97 radio station. Talks are still early, but we’re told that both sides have HIRED LAWYERS and INVESTMENT BANKERS – and are serious in getting a deal done.

And we all know he cannot wait to flip it to Alternative or Active, yeh right....

Does Jay Z and Carmelo Anthony have $100 million to purchase (Hot 97) WQHT because that's how much Emmis may ask for this station.

Or Jay Z and Anthony may lease the station like what Disney did with WQEW back in 1998.

It would be a lot easier to negotiate with Putin. Definitely easier to negotiate with Emmis.

And yes, I'm sure they can put their hands on enough money. I doubt it would be a cash deal. They'd have some investment partners, the way Magic Johnson did.

The FCC really wants to encourage minority ownership of broadcasting, and this would be a real score.
