How Satellite Radio Is Breaking Country's Next Big Stars

So Rolling Stone writes a story, and that makes it true?

If Sirius is shaping the future, why has their subscription rate stalled? People SHOULD be falling over themselves to pay $15 a month for their content, but they're not.

That is a partially false statement. There are 106 stations in secondary markets that make up the Musicrow reporting panel. They all play up and coming artists both major label and independents and report spins weekly like Mediabase stations. It was this panel that broke Florida Georgia Line, Clare Dunn and continues to bring up and comers to the public ear....The satrad station is but 1 member of the panel...

And who's breaking the new artists who are worth hearing?

Kasey Musgraves is the only one I can think of.

See post right above yours for the answer....She is great but most of her music is not radio friendly as she pushes the envelope quite a bit and that tends to make a lot of radio programmers and listeners uncomfortable.

She really doesn't "push the envelope" but singing about smoking dope makes listeners uncomfortable. Eric Church found that out too. It took Loretta Lynn ten years to get the freedom to sing The Pill. Same with Miranda Lambert. You don't walk in with your first single expecting that kind of latitude from conservative music fans. You have to know your audience. She didn't.

Even if Kasey is good at songwriting, I have never heard anything standout-ish about her voice.

God bless you always!!!

Holly

Maybe not her voice, but she does do the kind of country I like, which most of these people don't.

Singing about controversial topics does make me uncomfortable, though. I have no problem with the classic songs that were controversial but now aren't. But I still won't put up with Toby Keith's boot up your %$#@.

It's kinda sad that those stations are not given much credit these days. I heard Clare Dunn's "Get Out" a lot on KBOE and KMGO, which are two of the reporting stations. While neither station has the reach of The Highway, they certainly did have an impact.
